Vocations Guide to Priesthood

Each year at the beginning of summer in the diocese of St Petersburg the Local Ordinary hosts a “cookout” for his the seminarians as well as for those who are looking into the possibility of the priesthood. It is a very informal setting in which everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of nature and to see what is involved on the road to priesthood.

All are given the opportunity to join in evening prayer and reflect on what it is that God is asking.

Invitation to a Religious Vocation

Projects such as that of “Miryam & Joseph” which are aimed at fostering vocations to the religious life for both men and women are common features throughout most dioceses however, in the diocese of Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio conducts the annual Bishop’s retreat at the Cathedral Seminary Residence in Douglaston for men considering the priesthood. Normally, about 20 young men attend. Several have subsequently entered formation. The retreat is a great opportunity for the bishop to be with his seminarians and to challenge young people to consider a vocation in an environment where they can see first hand what the priesthood is all about.
